We are big fans of LA-based artist Esther Pearl Watson, and follow her work avidly. This catalog documents a series of over 150 paintings created for her show at Vielmetter Projects. Begun in March of 2020 at the onset of the shelter-in-place orders, the series spans the timeline of the Covid pandemic in Los Angeles in a series of diary-like entries. The paintings are a collection of scenes she witnessed in her day-to-day life, from neighbors hanging free homemade masks on their trees, through city curfews during the Black Lives Matter protests, ending in November with an election and a vaccine on the horizon. It's an impressive, emotional and intimate record of an unprecedented time.
